ATTOM: Home equity holds steady in Q4

Property data curator ATTOM released its fourth quarter 2024 U.S. Home Equity & Underwater Report, which shows that 47.7 percent of mortgaged residential properties nationwide were considered equity-rich in the fourth quarter, meaning that the combined estimated amount of loan balances secured by those properties was no more than half of their estimated market values.

Most metros saw home price gains in Q4

Single-family existing-home sales prices rose 89 percent in metro areas (210 out of 226) in the fourth quarter, as the 30-year fixed mortgage rate ranged from 6.12 percent to 6.85 percent, according to the National Association of Realtors quarterly report. Fourteen percent of the metros posted double-digit price gains, up from 7 percent in the third quarter.
