The North Carolina Appraisal Institute is hosting its 2025 Valuation Law Symposium on March 12-13 at the Canopy Realtor Association. This comprehensive two-day educational program will be focused on litigation issues in real estate valuation, according to a release from the North Carolina Appraisal Institute.
The symposium features speaker Josh Wood, a valuation expert whose practice bridges appraisal theory and law. Wood brings unique insights from his experience handling complex valuations, including cases involving bilateral monopolies, eminent domain, and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit properties.
Appraisal Institute President Paula Konikoff will also participate in the symposium. Konikoff, an experienced arbitrator and expert witness, will address the role of real estate appraisers in arbitration and mediation.
The curriculum is approved by the North Carolina Appraisal Board for 14 hours of continuing education credit. Topics will include:
- Day One: In-depth analysis of the unit rule and its applications, expert reporting in federal civil procedure, and an examination of the appraisal profession's historical significance
- Day Two: Comprehensive exploration of Fair Value, Market Value, and Fair Market Value concepts, supported by practical case studies
"This symposium offers appraisal professionals a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of real estate valuation in litigation assignments and allow them to better serve their clients," 2025 Chapter President Kelli Mayhew said in the release. "The expertise of our speakers makes this an essential event for commercial and residential valuation professionals."
