Julia Gordon was sworn in on May 20, as the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) assistant secretary for housing and the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) commissioner. HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge issued the oath of office to Commissioner Gordon during a ceremony at HUD’s headquarters. Commissioner Gordon was confirmed by the Senate on May 12, 2022, according to a release from HUD.
“I’m pleased to swear in Julia Gordon as HUD’s assistant secretary for the office of housing and the Federal Housing commissioner,” Fudge said in the release. “Julia is a respected leader with decades of experience working to create more vibrant and equitable communities. She brings a depth of expertise and perspective to FHA at a critical time for our country’s housing market. Her leadership will be invaluable as we work to expand access to safe, affordable, and sustainable housing.”
Commissioner Gordon most recently served as president of the National Community Stabilization Trust, a nonprofit organization that supports neighborhood revitalization and affordable homeownership through facilitating the rehabilitation of residential properties in underserved markets. Previously, Gordon served as the senior director of housing and consumer finance at the Center for American Progress, manager of the single-family policy team at the Federal Housing Finance Agency, and senior policy counsel at the Center for Responsible Lending.
She also has worked in the civil legal aid sector and as a litigation associate and pro bono coordinator at the law firm of WilmerHale.
