The Appraisal Foundation (TAF) revealed its 2020 appointments to the organization’s two independent boards, the Appraisal Standards Board (ASB) and Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB), according to a TAF press release. Appointees include individuals from the real estate and personal property appraising professions.

“The Foundation’s independent boards have the critical responsibility to protect the public trust in valuation,” TAF President David Bunton said in the release. “This important responsibility means that candidates must have distinguished themselves to even be considered, let alone selected. Our new members are proven leaders in the appraisal profession.”

The ASB sets the minimum standards, known as the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), which are the generally recognized ethical and performance standards for the appraisal profession. The 2020-21 edition of USPAP was released in early October, TAF said.

The AQB establishes minimum qualifications, known as the Real Property Appraiser Qualification Criteria. Additionally, the AQB has established voluntary Personal Property Appraiser Qualification Criteria. Foundation Sponsors must meet the Personal Property Criteria at a minimum.

“We are very pleased with the caliber of talent and expertise of the new members. The returning members have a proven record of excellence and commitment to the profession,” TAF Senior Vice President Kelly Davids said. “This combination will help ensure a thoughtful and well-informed approach to the development of professional standards and qualifications.”

The appointees to the ASB include:

  • Wayne Miller of Lutz, Fla., was reappointed for a two-year term;
  • Michelle Bradley of Natrona Heights, Pa., was reappointed for a three-year term; and
  • Tim Luke of Hobe Sound, Fla., was appointed for a three-year term.

    In addition, Miller was reappointed as chair of the ASB for 2020 and Patricia Atwood of Hanover, N.H. was reappointed as the 2020 vice chair of the board.

    The appointees to the AQB include:

  • Mark Lewis of Lufkin, Texas, was reappointed for a two-year term;
  • William Fall of Toledo, Ohio, was appointed for a two-year term; and
  • Gerald Yurek of Amelia, Ohio, was appointed for a three-year term.

In addition, Lewis was reappointed as chair of the AQB for 2020 and John Ryan of Newberry, Mass. was appointed as the 2020 vice chair of the Board.

Officer and boards appointments were made during TAF’s recent Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting Nov. 16, 2019, in Kansas City, Mo. All appointees begin their term Jan. 1, 2020.

The BOT is responsible for the governance of the organization, and appoints members and provides financial support and oversight to the AQB and the ASB.

“The Foundation is fortunate to have distinguished leaders in the appraisal profession step up at this critical time to protect and advance the public trust in valuation,” Bunton said. "The 2020 Officers and Trustees bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to their roles on the Board. The appraisal profession is fortunate to have their service."

The 2020 Officers to the Board of Trustees are:

  • Leila Dunbar of Washington, DC was appointed Chair.
  • Jeremy Gray of Pleasant Grove, Utah was appointed Vice Chair.
  • Lisa Hobart of Birmingham, Mich. was appointed Treasurer.
  • Emerson Sutton, Jr. of St. Louis, Mo. was appointed Secretary.
  • Ronny Johnson of New Braunfels, Texas was appointed Immediate Past Chair.

Terms for officers are one year.

In addition to the officers, additional Trustees who will serve in 2020 include:

  • Cindy Charleston Rosenberg of Huntingdon Valley, Pa.
  • Michael Christensen of Salt Lake City, Utah
  • Jeff Dickstein of Lake Forest, Calif.
  • Shaun Fitzgerald of North Easton, Mass.
