The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) announced the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) recognized its executive director as one of five association leaders selected for the ASAE’s 2023 class of Fellows.
IAAO Executive Director Debra McGuire was selected for ASAE’s 2023 class of Fellows, according to a release. The ASAE Fellows program annually confers honorary recognition upon exceptional association leaders making noteworthy and sustained contributions to their organizations and the association community.
“Being recognized as an ASAE Fellow by my peers is one of the most rewarding aspects of my career in association management to date,” McGuire said in the release. “I consider this honor the ultimate nod of support by some of the most influential voices in the association industry, who have selflessly given their time and talent to advance our profession while embracing a more inclusive environment for all.
“For those of us who find nonprofit work our calling, we lead with our heart, with a commitment to mission and sustainability of the respective associations we serve,” she added. “No one gets to this point without others, and I am grateful for having the opportunity to work alongside so many dedicated individuals in service to others.”
McGuire’s involvement with ASAE includes chairing the Certified Association Executive (CAE) Commission, the Communication Section Council, the CAE Item-Writing Committee, and most recently, ASAE Foundation’s Research Committee.
Joining McGuire as members of the 2023 class of Fellows were executives from the School Nutrition Association; the Associated Luxury Hotels International; the Association for Intelligent Information Management; and the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.
“Congratulations to the 2023 class of Fellows. The Fellows program is among ASAE’s highest honors, recognizing individuals who have made a significant impact on the association community through outstanding volunteer service and inspiring leadership,” Janice Lachance, FASAE, executive vice president for strategic leadership and global outreach at the American Geophysical Union and chair of the ASAE Fellows, said. “These five professionals join a cadre of leaders who have made extraordinary contributions to ASAE and are thought leaders for the entire association community.”
