For those who are reading this story, and the subsequent articles for this online edition, know that you are looking at the final online version of Valuation Review as you've known it. But this is not the last you will be hearing from me about the latest appraisal-related news, as we are moving our coverage to sister publication Dodd Frank Update. Learn more here.
On Dec. 8, I will be officially moving onto my new assignment as “Senior Editor” with October Research, LLC. I would be remiss, though, if I did not express my sincere thanks to those who have been with yours truly on this decade-long journey, bringing appraisers news, highlights, updates and exclusive feature stories that will total, when all is finally said and done, well over 3,000 stories, as far as the publication’s print issues.
There is a saying that one can accomplish very little in a long period of time, while some can achieve many things resulting in positive results in a rather short timeframe.
I’d like to believe the latter notion applies to my contribution to Valuation Review over the last 10 years. Since 2002, we brought our readers so many interviews and important items for appraisers, who continue to navigate the waters of change within the industry, and who no doubt will keep adapting to more changes and regulations in the years to come.
To say it has been an interesting and rewarding voyage as editor of Valuation Review for the last 10 years would be an understatement, and I’m going to share one memory with you.
I remember rather nervously my first conference. I had just been hired and wasn’t on the job a full two weeks yet. Next thing I know, I’m on a plane to Dallas to cover the Appraisal Institute (AI) conference. My editorial director at the time, thank goodness, accompanied me on this trip to basically “show me the ropes.”
I recall arriving at the hotel, checking in rather quickly, and then being told I’m interviewing the AI president in his suite in about 20 minutes. Talk about a “baptism by fire,” but it all went well and as they say, the rest is history.
As for conferences, there were many and I enjoyed all of them, from AI and the Appraiser’s Conference & Trade Show to the Appraisal Summit and Val Expo. What great learning experiences! And of course, I’ll forever remember all of those conferences in Las Vegas, which seemed to be the official landing spot for appraisers!
When I think about the many people I had the privilege to meet and work with from the appraisal profession, I can only say “thank you.” I wish I could list all of your names but always know that your knowledge and friendship I will treasure forever.
A large THANK YOU also goes out to the readers of Valuation Review. Whether it was an email, registered comment or phone call, I appreciated your kind words about the coverage. I invite all of you now to continue reading appraisal, financial and lending news and and join me as part of the Dodd Frank Update family.
But now, it is time to turn to the next chapter.
And with that, we proudly say, “goodnight” to Valuation Review and "good morning" to our new home at Dodd Frank Update.
