Beginning April 1st Fannie Mae will require appraisers working on Fannie Mae loans to comply with the American National Standards Institute’s (ANSI) Standardized Property Measuring Guidelines to create a consistent standard within the industry. Lyle Radke is Sr. Director of Fannie Mae’s Collateral Policy team, which establishes and maintains policy standards for appraisals and property eligibility. Shortly after receiving a master’s degree in Geology from Brigham Young University, Lyle began his career in real estate valuation in New Mexico. After nearly nine years of appraisal field work, he joined the Valuation Department of GMAC Mortgage, becoming manager in 2007. In that role, he hired and trained a large valuation review team from the ground up, as well as supervised the creation of one of the first XML appraisal delivery platforms. Looking for a new challenge in 2013, he joined Fannie Mae to work on Collateral Underwriter and other collateral policy initiatives.

Hamp Thomas began his appraisal career after working for ten years as a Realtor®. He is the author of Measuring Square Footage with ANSI® 2021, the American Measurement Standard, and the Home Measurement Standard. He has also authored the on-line courses; ANSI, Home Measurement, & the Power of Price-Per-Square-Foot (appraisal and real estate CE courses); Big Data-Big Trouble, the Learning Home Measurement Video course; and Agents are from Mars-Appraisers are from Venus. Hamp also authored the Home Measurement Specialist certification program. Hamp has promoted the establishment of a mandatory national measurement standard since 2003, believing all real estate professionals must use the same “language” to create and communicate residential square footage. The real estate industry must find a way to join the rest of the standardized world.

Hamp teaches numerous appraisal and real estate continuing education classes with AppraisereLearning and is a licensed instructor in over thirty states. He is a member of the National Association of Appraisers (NAA) and NCPAC (North Carolina Professional Appraiser’s Coalition). Specialties: Certified Residential Appraiser. Richard Hagar
President and Chief Appraiser
American Home Appraisals

Richard Hagar, SRA is President of American Home Appraisals; as well as lead instructor of The Hagar Institute. He started his career as a real estate agent in 1976 and became an appraiser ten years later. His appraisal services center around resolving complex, residential legal appraisal issues as well as assisting in the defense of appraisers involved in State disciplinary actions. He provides internal compliance training to lending institutions on a nation-wide level; as well as CE classes to appraisers. Mr. Hagar also provides instruction to members of numerous departments of Home Land Security including the FBI, Secret Service, DEA as well as prosecutors for various states, counties and cities. Richard’s main goal is to help disseminate information regarding appraisal issues for both lenders as well as the appraisers; with the main focus on helping appraisers provide superior work products, as well as how to stay safe.
