CBC Mortgage Agency, a nationally chartered housing finance agency, announced Tai Christensen, the company’s director of government affairs and diversity, equity and inclusion officer, has been recognized as one the foremost women leaders in the mortgage industry, according to a release.
Christensen was listed third on Mortgage Professional America’s 2021 Elite Women list. Winners were picked based on their contributions to diversity and inclusion in the mortgage industry and how they give back to their communities through charity work and volunteering.
“This is an incredible achievement, and no one is more deserving of this prestigious award than Tai,” CBC Mortgage Agency President Miki Adams said in the release. “Tai has continually and courageously stepped out to address the ongoing obstacles to minority homeownership and helped CBC Mortgage Agency achieve its goals to increase equity in housing. Just as importantly, she has also shown a deep commitment in making a difference in the broader community.”
In announcing this year’s winners, Mortgage Professional America indicated that the mortgage playing field has become far more inclusive and empowering for women in many ways. Christensen agreed, noting it has been a particularly notable year for Black women serving in senior leadership roles in housing. These visionary leaders include HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge; acting FHFA Director Sandra Thompson; Allana McCargo, who was recently confirmed as president of Ginnie Mae; and Kristy Fercho, chairman of the Mortgage Bankers Association.
“Seeing people who look like me, share my heritage, and share my history makes me feel so empowered,” Christensen said. “Each of these women has been an excellent role model for me as well as for all women and people from diverse backgrounds who aspire to be great leaders and make an impact in our industry.”
