Texas appraisal bill heads to Senate

ATTOM: Zombie foreclosures keep increasing

ATTOM recently released its second quarter “2023 Vacant Property and Zombie Foreclosure Report” showing that 1.3 million residential properties in the United States are vacant. That figure represents 1.3 percent, or one in 79 homes, across the nation.

Florida passes appraisal lawsuit bill

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed three bills into law, amending some preexisting industry regulations, according to The Capitolist.
HB 213 changes the statute of limitations and repose for lawsuits related to acts or omissions in the performance of appraisal services or appraisal management services.

FHA proposes initiative for struggling homeowners

Recently, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) posted for feedback on a proposal for a new home retention option to help struggling homeowners meet their mortgage obligations. The new option would allow mortgage servicers to use the FHA Partial Claim both to bring a borrower’s mortgage current and to provide temporary reductions to their monthly mortgage payments.

CFPB, 5 other agencies issue joint notice of proposed AVM rule

On June 1, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, along with five other agencies, invited comment on a proposed rule to implement the quality control standards mandated by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act for the use of automated valuation models by mortgage originators and secondary market issuers in determining the collateral worth of a mortgage secured by a consumer’s principal dwelling. The focus is on homeowners who may be concerned about a technology model alone determining the value of their house.
