Valuation Review hosted the first installment of its compliance webinar series by welcoming panelists Greg Stephens, veteran appraiser, Michelle Czekalski Bradley, chief appraiser of Czekalski Real Estate Inc. Appraisal Services and The Appraisal Foundation’s (TAF) Lisa Desmarais to speak on the program titled “Proposed Changes to USPAP.”
Stephens, president and CEO of GE Stephens Compliance and Training, addressed USPAP matters concerning, amongst many concepts, how appraisers will be affected if changes to the ETHICS RULE are adopted, while Czekalski Bradley, Appraisal Standards Board chair, talked about specific changes possibly coming as to the Nondiscrimination section of the ETHICS RULE, in addition to definitions of USPAP to modify and retire.
Desmarais, vice president of Appraisal Issues for TAF, talked about comments and feedback received from the public recommending the specific changes to the language of USPAP, as well as the roles of the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) and the Appraisal Standards Board (ASB).
The conversation also featured specific verbiage changes to the document as it relates to appraisal bias, while additional matters were brought to the audience’s attention to remind appraisers what USPAP requires to achieve compliance.
