The American Society of Appraisers (ASA) Northern California Chapter is offering an upcoming series of 2 courses focusing on Going Concern appraisals, ASA announced in a release.
ASA Real Property designated appraisers can earn the profession's only specialty in Going Concern valuation by successfully completing the two classes (RP400 & RP401), submitting a report for peer review and applying for the specialty designation enhancement.
“With today’s complex real estate (gas stations with car washes and convenience stores, nursing homes, golf courses, and hotel/motels) if would behoove most real estate commercial appraisers to take one or both of these courses,” ASA Real Property Discipline Chairman Paul D. Roberts said in the release.
“Even if you do not want to pursue the appraisal specialty the knowledge obtained from these courses would be quite beneficial,” Roberts added.
Both of the following courses will be held in Lafayette, Calif., for three days with a two-hour exam at the start of day four:
- RP 401 – Allocating Components in Going Concern Appraisals, to be held May 20-23; and
- RP 400 – Real Property Going Concern Appraisals – Case Studies: to be held June 3-6.
Both of the courses will be presented by L. Deane Wilson, the managing partner for The Blackwell Group. Wilson is a certified USPAP instructor, while his current area of practice is appraisal review, with an emphasis on reviewing going concern appraisals.
Wilson has been appraising Going Concern property types since the 1980s and has taught Going Concern valuation for almost two decades to government agencies, assessors, and appraisers, and for appraisal organizations such as ASA and the Appraisal Institute.
