The Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC) has elected Peter McLean, of Peterborough, Ontario as AIC’s National President for 2018-19. McLean formally was inducted during AIC’s 2018 conference held from June 13-16, 2018 in Quebec City, Quebec, the AIC announced in a release.
McLean first joined AIC in 1990 and received his Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI) designation in 2001. His involvement with the Appraisal Institute began when, as a candidate member, he served as secretary on the Peterborough Lindsay Chapter. McLean later was elected as the Regional Director for the Ontario Association after serving as chair for three terms and while serving on the Ontario Association Board, he was president for two years.
Governance has been important to McLean as he was appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario to the Peterborough-Lakefield Police Services Board and served as chair for two years. After his term on the Ontario Association, McLean served as a governor for Fleming College for a six-year term and was board chair for three years. He continues to be involved with the national body of AIC as a board eExaminer and on various other committees.
McLean has practiced as a fee appraiser and mentored several candidate members who successfully have been granted their designations
“I am honored to be the new AIC president – especially as we enter into its 80th anniversary as the preeminent professional valuation association in Canada. I plan to continue to build on its proud history and reputation as the appraisal professionals of choice within Canada,” McLean said in the release. “I’d like to thank Rick Colbourne for all his hard work and leadership as AIC president and I look forward to working with him as he continues to be part of the Executive Committee in the role of past-president.”

Several awards also were presented during the 2018 AIC Conference. The AIC’s highest honour, the Fellow, was awarded to three AIC Designated Members who have emulated AIC’s values and integrity in every facet of their career. This year’s recipients are:
