Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson announced Bear Chaney as the new director of the Arkansas Assessment Coordination Department (ACD).
The ACD is granted full power and authority in the administration of the tax laws of Arkansas to exercise general and complete supervision over: the valuation, assessment and equalization of all property for ad valorem tax purposes, (except utility property); the collection of those taxes; and the assessors, equalization boards, tax collectors and other officers charged with those duties in all seventy-five counties, to insure that all assessments on property in Arkansas shall be in relative proportion to the just and true value thereof, in substantial compliance with the law.
Chaney has worked in the real estate field for more than 30 years, working for three different Arkansas assessor’s offices and owning his own appraisal business. He is a licensed and a Certified Residential Appraiser with the Arkansas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board, in addition to being a Level 4 appraiser and a reappraisal manager according to ACD guidelines. Bear is currently the assessor in Benton County.
“I am pleased to announce Bear Chaney as the new director of the Arkansas Assessment Coordination Department,” Hutchinson said in a statement. “Bear brings decades of experience in real estate and as an assessor. His expertise in the field and his knowledge of Arkansas real estate makes him an ideal fit to lead this important department.”
