Parker County Appraisal District (PCAD) Chief Appraiser Larry Hammonds confirmed that the Texas district has been using the wrong boundary line between the Weatherford and Aledo school districts when calculating property values for the two entities.
The issue affects property owners and students in a small county subdivision and 21 acres of land.
“The correct boundary is about 200 feet east of where PCAD thought it was,” Hammonds told the Weatherford Democrat. “The change shifts nine properties in the Chisholm Heights subdivision — valued at about $1.23 million — from Aledo ISD (independent school district) to Weatherford ISD.”
According to Hammonds, PCAD discovered the issue in May, when updated technology in the form of aerial photographs and geographic information systems software provided a more accurate picture.
“When we compared the original map we had to the new map, the line wasn’t right,” Hammonds said.
PCAD mailed letters to the six affected property owners on White Settlement Road and Chisholm Hills Road shortly after they discovered the situation, but didn’t bring the school districts up to speed.
“The line didn’t change as far as the districts were concerned,” Hammonds said. “It was the way we had it coded in our system.”
