Technology has certainly become more advanced and innovative since the arrival of COVID-19. And with many restrictions remaining in place for appraisers, drones have become an even bigger and more important device in the appraiser’s toolbox.
Panelists Scott Anderson, a commercial real estate appraiser working for the United States Department of Agriculture - Farm Services Agency, and Vic Moss, who is the chief operating officer and vice-president of Drone Service Providers Alliance (DSPA), provided many tips concerning utilizing drones for appraisal assignments.
From government regulations and having the knowledge to operate drones correctly and effectively, Anderson and Moss touched on a variety of areas associated with this fast-growing technology.
Anderson said drones allow for two things in that they provide appraisers more information and, most important during this time of living in a pandemic world, drones provide distance.
“We are now able to inspect areas such as rooftops and inaccessible parts of the structure and land that were not possible before or were possible but put the appraiser at risk,” Anderson said.
Anderson had said drone capabilities are increasing at an almost exponential rate and is eager to see their capabilities in the years to come.
