Palm Beach County, Fla. property appraiser Dorothy Jacks assumed the office of president of the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) on Jan. 1, 2018. Jacks was sworn in during ceremonies at the IAAO's 83rd Annual International Conference on Assessment Administration in Las Vegas in late September, according to a release from the IAAO.
As president, Jacks will chair the Executive Board and preside at all meetings of the Board and membership. Previously she served as IAAO President-Elect in 2017, Vice President in 2016, and on the Executive Board from 2010 to 2012.
"I am pleased to represent IAAO members to continue the progress we have made over the past few years to improve the association and industry," Jacks said in the release. "The association has had a significant impact on the career I love, and I am excited to give back to the profession and my peers in this way."
Jacks has been a member of IAAO since 1993. She has served as chair of the IAAO International Committee in 2014 and 2015; Co-chair of the IAAO International Special Committee in 2013; and as a committee member of the IAAO Membership Services Committee in 2009 and the IAAO Budget Committee in 2011 and 2012. In addition, she is a Past President of the Florida Chapter of IAAO.
She has been with the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser's office for nearly 30 years and was elected County Property Appraiser in 2016 after previously serving as Chief Deputy Property Appraiser. .
Elections for IAAO's 2018 Executive Board were recently completed and Tim Boncoskey, chief deputy assessor of Maricopa County in Phoenix, Ariz. was elected president-elect and Amy Rasmussen, director of litigation for the Polk County Assessor's Office in Des Moines, Iowa was elected vice president.
Elected as members of the Executive Board for three-year terms beginning Jan. 1 were Scott K. Teruya, real property tax administrator for the County of Maui in Kahului, Hawaii (Region 1); Rebecca L. Malmquist, director of assessments for the City of Minneapolis, Minn. (Region 2); and Bryan Kinsey, assistant director - Division of Property Assessments State of Tennessee / Comptroller of the Treasury in Nashville, Tenn. (Region 3).
IAAO is the leading nonprofit, educational and research association for individuals in the assessment profession and others with an interest in property valuation and taxation.
