The Lancaster County Board in Nebraska approved a contract with Great Plains Appraisal Co. to serve as referee coordinator for county property tax protests this year, despite the misgivings of the county commissioner.
Commissioner Bill Avery said he still wants to see the county publicly bid the contract, though he supported a motion to approve the contract with Great Plains Appraisal. The contract with the company is not to exceed $180,000.
“I think a public bid is necessary,” Avery told the Lincoln Journal Star.
The county has not publicly bid its contract with Great Plains Appraisal for 22 years, but simply has renewed it each year. Avery said he doesn’t question the performance of Great Plains Appraisal.
“My opposition was an expression of my discontent with the process,” he said.
