The American Society of Appraisers (ASA), in conjuncture with the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, will offer “Principles of Valuation” classes taught by accredited senior appraisers beginning in January 2016. The series of four courses is designed for prospective personal property appraisers focusing on valuation theories and methods common to many areas of expertise.
The classes will meet the needs of those working with personal properties, while the “Principles of Valuation” course of study will be drawing students from many backgrounds offering an opportunity to meet and collaborate with other individuals with a wide range of experience.
Students interested in accreditation by ASA must take these four classes in sequence, and then must take and pass the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
“ASA courses in personal property valuation support the goal of offering professionals the knowledge they need to advance their careers and broaden their skills,” ASA representative Sandra J. Tropper said in a press release. “We are delighted to bring the ASA appraisal studies classes to this institution.”
The collaboration begins with an open house on Dec. 5 featuring presentations by faculty and local experts, including a series of dialogues with appraisers.
Classes will include:
- Introduction to Personal Property Valuation (Jan. 14-17, 2016)
- Development of a Personal Property Appraisal: Research and Analysis (April 7-10, 2016)
- Personal Property Valuation: Report Writing (July 14-17, 2016)
- Personal Property Valuation: The Legal and Regulatory Environment (Oct. 6-9, 2016)
