The Whitfield County (Georgia) Tax Assessor’s Office began a review of all rural land. County Chief Appraiser of the Board of Assessors Ashley O’Donald says his staff will be field reviewing more than 11,000 parcels county-wide between now and the end of the year. Rural land is defined as land that isn’t in a subdivision or within city limits.
He said his office will have nine appraisers who will be taking a look at each piece of property.
“They will normally be going out in teams of two and will be driving marked county vehicles with photo IDs,” O’Donald said. “They’ll be looking at the land as well as taking photographs.”
The goal of the review, according to O’Donald, is to bring the appraisal methodology up to date and “keep everything in compliance” with state Department of Revenue regulations.
“We’re putting an eye on each piece of property so that we can take into consideration all of its characteristics, good or bad, that would affect its appraisal,” O’Donald said.
