It's no surprise that the catalyst for change was the bottom falling out of the mortgage industry. Now, the poor practices of yesterday are being pushed out of the market place by the painful defining of new best practices. The bad blood has been let and appraisers are looking to recuperate. FHA report card to Congress shows needed improvement

ASA to offer appraisal program at SUNY

The American Society of Appraisers and Purchase College, State University of New York, are offering the 2012 Summer Appraisal Camp, June 4-18, 2012, at Purchase College, in New York. Appraiser indicted for elevated appraisals

An appraiser who allegedly provided fraudulently elevated appraisals in support of fraudulent loan applications in connection with two different mortgage fraud schemes was indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of bank fraud and wire and bank fraud conspiracy. LPS HPI: 3.8 percent year-over-year decline in home prices

Lender Processing Services Inc. updated its home price index, through its LPS Applied Analytics division, with residential sales concluded during August 2011. The LPS HPI summarizes national home prices by tracking monthly prices in over 13,500 ZIP codes. Within each ZIP code, it tracks five price levels from low to high. Read on for the latest update.

AGA seeks legal counsel to fight Federal Reserve regulations

The American Guild of Appraisers announced it has retained a law firm as part of a broad-reaching effort to overturn recent federal regulations that it says "dramatically cut the fees that appraisers are paid to perform appraisals, and threaten the viability of professional appraisal practice and the reliability of appraisals used in real estate transactions." Powered by over-priced energy bars and strong coffee, the Valuation Review team stepped into the buzzing Valuation Expo trade show floor. From the chatter permeating from the booths, you'd never guess that it was 8 a.m. at Las Vegas' Luxor Hotel and Casino. Alfred Pollard, FHFA supervisor of the Office of General Counsel, took the stage during the opening keynote to provide an overview of the state of the industry and give an update on the rule making and new regulations.

CoreLogic September HPI shows year-over-year decline

CoreLogic's September Home Price Index shows that home prices in the U.S. decreased 1.1 percent on a month-over-month basis, the second consecutive monthly decline. According to the CoreLogic HPI, national home prices, including distressed sales, also declined by 4.1 percent in September 2011 compared to September 2010. Read on for additional statistics.

Solidifi to hook into GSEs through UCDP platform

Solidifi U.S., a full-fee appraisal management services provider, announced that it will serve as one of the Uniform Collateral Data Portal integration platform providers for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The UCDP, part of the Uniform Mortgage Data Program, is the single portal for submission of electronic appraisal data files to the government-sponsored enterprises.
